One of the primary reasons we traveled to Texas was to spend some time with her father, Arvol. Arvol is 93 years old and lives in a house that is in the rural community where he grew up. Friends are always asking us about how he is doing so I thought some pictures would give perspective. He is doing amazingly well for his age, yet the years are beginning to take their toll.
Arvol does have a lot of help. Two ladies come to the house during the week to help him out to provide help with food, cleaning and personal grooming. They have been real life savers. Evelyn (left) has been helping the longest. Carly (below) started this summer supplementing Evelyn's schedule this summer. The two of them have been life savers.
In addition physical therapist Pam (below) comes by several times a week for treatments.
We do worry about Arvol. In recent weeks he has fallen twice. Each time he used his emergency call button and was taken to the emergency room to be checked out. Each time he has been pronounced OK. Because of the falls he is afraid to walk. He limits himself to a wheelchair these days.
During our time we took Arvol to visit Lou Ella's grave site. They were married 66 years, Arvol really misses his bride who was his constant companion until she passed two and a half years ago.
